Hey Guys,

I have been registered here for some time, but not posted anything. I have been in the process of developing a DIY Kit for a Midi triggered drum light system.

Here is a link (http://www.italentshare.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1553) to the kits. A fellow member of vdrums.com did the programming and I developed the hardware.

I am trying to get enough confirmed buys so that I can place a good size order to keep the cost down. You can PM me or email me at jer_ulm@yahoo.com if you are interested.

Hope this is OK here!

Thanks
Jeremy

very cool stuff. But I'm not interested. I'd be concerned I'd have a siezure with every tom roll. LOL

that's cool... i can remember years ago wanting to do something like this, but its taken this long just to get the drumming part down, let alone triggering

thanks

Thanks Guys. I know it's not for everyone, but I think it will work great for those that use it!

Looks like it would be pretty cool on stage once it gets all the bugs worked out, although I think having external lights all around the stage go off would be cooler.

Hi, I am currently working on a mains (120v-240v) driver board for this module to power any lights that you have on stage. I agree that having the whole stage rocking to the drums would be really cool.

Love it! This is a great idea and the time is right. You come up with some of the best stuff, thanks for all you do.

I agree ... To cool someone is doing this. Ive had a few friends who have done this through the years.... This looks like a cost effective way to do some cool lighting effects !!

Looks very good! I haven't been following this much lately, what do you think this will price out at?

I'm not sure yet. It was a lot more work than I thought it was going to be to make all of the power led's parts that will be used in the drum head itself. Also cutting and fabricating the front and back panels of the enclosure is very time consuming. I need to have then either CNC cut or water jetted. I will have to find ways to streamline the process to make this thing affordable. I will post back once I know more. I started to build a CNC machine awhile back, maybe I need to follow up on that project.

I'm pretty interested in this. I'd like to know what you come to for a final price on these. I realize there's a lot of time and work put into putting it all together so I wonder if you would be willing to sell the finished module sans case and output jacks? Or maybe even a kit version to save you some work?

Hey man, sorry I didn't get back to you on this. It has been a while since I have been on the forum. I can do a complete module like the one in this thread with no leds or led strands for $295.00 usd shipped in the USA. Anywhere else will be about $12.00 more. I can send out a soldered kit with no enclosure, just the kit soldered and assembled for $185.00. That is only a $50.00 markup from the kit price for my labor. PM me if you are interested.

Here is a video that I did using the module that I showed in this thread. Sorry about the quality. I was having trouble getting the camera to function good in the dark.

Hey Burtmeister, I PM'd you back. Wasn't sure if you got it though. Let me know if you are still interested.

Thanks

Lookin good Jman, for me I would like the lights on the outside of the drum, because of the distraction factor. I have trouble with flashing lights. I think lights on the rim would be cool for the audience. Keep up the good work. I'll be a customer eventually.-dave

Thanks man!

You can put the lights where ever you want them Dave. That is the neat thing about the kits. It doesn't even have to be drums. I have an add-on module that makes it work for an electric guitar, but it will also work with any midi instrument or just with a computer controlled midi program! I now have a 39 single trigger version available, which means you can trigger 39 separate lights.

I have added a guitar module to my midi drum lights. You can now trigger these lights for solos and the like with an electric guitar! It picks up one note at a time so although it will flash with chords it will not be a consistent light show. It is best used for solos.

It has a guitar in and out jack along with a midi out.

We have updated the firmware for our kits. We have added 10 banks (maps or presets) for storing different lighting combinations. These will also be handy if you use different drum maps on your drum module.

Here is a video of one of our light kits in action. This is someone that bought from us and posted their band playing. You may notice that some of the triggers don't flash every time. That is due to the dual zones of the drum or cymbal. This is a midi operated system so if say you strike the bell and the lights are set up for the bow, it won't flash.

I have completed and verified the guitar to midi add-on kit for Midi Knights. It uses guitar notes to trigger the LED's by converting the analog signal from a guitar to a digital midi note.

I show it without the power supply portion because this is not needed when used with Midi Knights. It is included in the kit though.

Here is a photo of the PCB and installed components.

Hey Guys,

We are no longer selling these as kits, but we have developed a ready-to-run module for a very cool drum lighting package.

You can check it out HERE (www.jeredsystems.com) if you are interested.

Midi Knights Pro is adding an easily removable LED mounting strip to it's product line. It is a 1/2" (13mm) wide high impact clear acrylic strip. It is held in place by Velcro (nothing is stuck to the drum) and not only looks good, but functions great as well! It can be mounted inside or outside of the drum shell.

Here is the Photobucket album (http://s227.photobucket.com/albums/dd238/jman_31/MK%20Pro/LED%20Strip%20mounting%20system/?start=all) with the pics of the new mounting system prototype.
