Hey guys, I'm just getting back into drumming and I'm getting blisters on the outside of my pointer finger and it's now ripped them off and I can't play anymore because it bleeds everytime I play. I have put grips on my sticks and everything. I need to know what maybe causing this so I can fix it. It only effects me mostly when I'm playing metal or something where I'm hitting harder than normal.

I'm assuming the blistering is on your finger at the fulcrum point, yet? Just like anything else, that friction of the stick moving back & forth is going to cause a blister until it develops a callous (sp?). The harder/faster playing is probably causing it to break open. Personally, I'd recommend that you don't play to the point of breaking open & bleeding. After playing for a while, either put tape or a band-aid over that area (if you want to continue playing), or stop playing. The hand/finger needs time to develop the callous....I don't know much about physiology or how the body works, but I think if you keep splitting it open it won't develop the callous.

Ok, that might be true considering I've been playing like all day every day for a month. lol

Also if you hold your sticks too tight it will cause blistering and other hand ailments, try loosening your grip a bit if you tighten up while doing a roll around the toms or just getting really into it when playing something fast and furious.
I have a tendency of tightening up also at times.
Take care
