Hmmm....the Phoenix kits sound great. I can't imagine what they have in mind.

Rumour has it they are making a kit out of Kapur wood (fairly hard wood..harder than maple)...and the kit is going to be based on a vintage design..again don't know this to be true yet...I guess we'll all find out come NAMM...

Ya know...the harder woods IMO sound better as snares. I will be interested to see the shell config.

Agree!...another thing that sounds great on snares is steam bent single ply shells...just seem to have more ring to them...

I actually have a Rhythm King 6x14 Walnut...also have a Koa stave from them...same size
The walnut has a real deep, throaty sound tuned tight.

If you guys ever have anything exotic in mind, check out Vaughncraft shells. If you find something you absolutely have to have contact me and I can prep them and finish them for you at a nominal fee. I have been itching to do one of these and add one of these to my portfolio. I just finished a 15 ply Keller in Navy Blue Dye and 100 coats of lacquer. I will post pics when i finish buffing it out. The Vaughncraft company always have shells that are on sale.
