I have been asked by Bobby and Ron to post some pics of my "A" kit here on the "E" drum forum. But we drummers like all drums. Right?
This is the front view of the full kit. I`ve had the base kit since Dec. 1972 and added a few pieces over the years. All the cymbals are vintage mid 70`s Zildjians. The drums sizes are 6,8,12,13,14,16,18,24, 5 1/2 X 14 matching snare.

I also have a 26" John Bonham Bass drum I use in a 5 piece hard rock setup. This bass drum is super rare with the rail consolete and cymbal mount. I use a 61/2 X 14 supraphonic supersensitve snare with this kit. Front view.

Alvis!
Did you buy her new in 72'?
That is an awesome kit! I like the clear a lot. I don't usually care for the translucent colors... But, the clear ROCKS!!
Thanks for posting your baby :)

Thanks Ron, Yeah I bought it new in Dec. 1972. Here is a pic of the " Pro Beat" kit the way I bought it. The stands and cymbals were upgraded as in this photo in 76 and 77.

Got to love those 26" bass drums Alvis. My last a-kit in 1980 was a wood grain Ludwig with a 14x26" bass, 6.5x14" snare, 10x14" mounted tom, 12x15" fl tom and a 16x16" fl tom. Speed king pedal, Ludwig hardware and about seven Z cymbals. Sorry, no photos available.
Long live Bonham.

Awesome kit Alvis.
I love the variety of drums and cymbals, oh so sweet. :)
I've seen people put neons in their transparent kits like this one, talking about wild.....
If I find the picture I'm thinking of, I'll post it.
I just found it...... this looks wild.
Take care

Ron, Thanks for the Wuffie, I need it bad. LOL. If Joey say`s it "Rocks Out Loud" then it just does. That`s all there is to it. What a great compliment!! Thanks Joey!
Wes, I know the kit you had. Even though I had the Vistalites I used to sit with my Ludwig catalog and dream about that wood grain kit. I would have traded my vistalites for it at that time if I had the chance. I think that 5 piece Rock setup is still the the most fun to play.
Keep on Rockin Wes, and I know you will.
Jack, That is wild alright. I would do that myself but it reminds me of Disco. And I don`t like Disco. LOL

HAHAHA Alvis...... No man, screw disco.......
Think neon green, you know that Prell shampoo color (you know, that plutonium green)........ get some of that color neons in your kit.
Play in a band, the announcer could then say.........
Alvis is Radio-Active! LOL :)
You have a beautiful kit Alvis, and the great part about it..... if the power goes out, you can still make lots of NOISE!!!!! :)
Take care

Very beautiful. I practiced on clear Ludwigs (not mine) for awhile and I loved them.

Lovely kit Alvis....... the bad thing about a transparent kit is....... the crowd can see when you've forgotten to do up your flies :)

1976 - 20 yrs old and had no idea in 6 yrs I'd sell everything, not to play again for another 20 yrs.

Wes, How in the world did you dig up this old post? I like the pic of you and your Ludwig kit. I always liked that kit. I would see it in the ludwig catalog and think about trading in my vistalites for it but I never did. I still have mine. Funny how we look so small behind a big 26" BD compared to the electronics. haha.
Yeah, Those pics got lost in the transition. Here are some more pics of it. A couple of all the pieces and a couple of a Bonham style setup with the 26" BD. I`ll even include a rare pic of Alvis with the kit from about 1985 I think. That`s my Synare PS-1 percussion synthesizer on my left. Had it since 1977.

Alvis! You took the bottom heads of your kit in the last one. Nice fan too - hahahaha
Here's the kit prior to the big luddies. I had to climb into the stratosphere to hit those upper toms - hahaha
These were ludwigs I stripped, stained and sealed in 1974.

Wes, No wonder you are so good at refinishing drums, you've been at it since 1974. Damn those toms are way up there! haha. I'm missing the bottom heads in that pic because I busted the top ones and just put the bottom ones on top. Cheaper. haha. Then I busted those too and finally broke down and put new heads on all the drums top and bottom. LOL

Wow, nice old kits from both Alvis and Wes, man oh man, how I wish I had a picture of my black Pearl wood/fiberglass kit from 1977.
Thanks for sharing the old pictures guys, they are great! :)
Take care

Alvis - you look nothing like your avatar. :p
Wes - I think it's funny that the quality of the photo (with the "high" toms) and the style of the drum set are really the only thing that give away the era of that photo. I look at that guitaris and think, hey I see kids now and they wear the same clothes and have the same hair and facial hair styles.

Yeah, those were good times. Killed a lot of brain cells back then. It's a wonder I can still....................................Damn!
Turns out, I probably didn't sell my drums. I just forgot where I left them - hahahaha
Thanks for the compliments guys (must scan more photos with new scanner:-)
