Hey everyone. My name is Steve. I hope to get to know some of you. I've been looking for a place to meet other drummers, maybe even learn some things on gigging with electric drums.
I've been playing drums for around 15 to 20 yrs. Doing everything from playing in bands to studio drumming. I've always been into math music.... Odd time signatures and etc. And recently I've been invited to play some gigs with friends. About half cover and half originals. The covers are ( alice in chains, metallica, a perfect circle, tool, incubus, and etc. So the originals are strongly influenced from those styles.
Now days I am playing on the Roland V-drums with the TD-10 and TD-12 Sound modules. I've always gigged with acoustic drums (mic'd) and now I am venturing into new territory. So if anyone has any advice in using electric drums for gigging, please advise.

Steve

Welcome to the forum strahler22.

Sounds like some thumping music your playing by the bands you listed and I'm assuming your kit must be fairly large (double kicks?) with two modules. So, the band has a nice p.a., but it sounds like you want to compete with the stage volume using your own amplification. Is everyone going thru the mains with a low stage volume or is it balls to the wall on level 11 and you need to compete against monster guitar stacks? Do you plan on running thru the mains also? How much do you want to spend? Do you want to use a keyboard amp, passive two-way cabinet(s) with an amp, active two-way cabinet(s) or a two-way system with a subwoofer? Silly questions, but they will give some of the members here a better idea of what your needs may be.

PS: I don't gig with my electronic kit as I'd have to kill someone each night if I had to break it down and set it back up again. Hahaha WW

Hey thanks for replying.... To answer some of your questions. Yes, I have double kicks. Use them mainly for accents these days. My kit isn't really so large. I just like having options. And there are only 12 inputs on each module. And with all those sounds.... I needed more inputs
I would like my own amplification. And I will be going through the mains. There will be a low stage volume. The nice part about having the v-drums, is the volume control.
I have a couple thousand dollars for the gear. I already have a Mackie 12 channel mixer(for drums only), and a crown XLS802 power amp (about 1000 watts) Currently I have a pair of Nady 15" cabinets... But I'm not happy with them at all.
I was thinking about a pair of active subwoofers...( for stereo )? Since I would be sending the kick and some toms that way.
And maybe some jbl 2-way cabinets...

Any advice would be appreciated… And thanks again for replying
