Hi guys
I'm new to drumming and wanted to buy a low-cost electronic drum set for practice. I've narrowed down to two products: the Alesis DM5 (http://www.zzounds.com/item--ALEDM5PROKIT) pro kit and the Yamaha DXPL Explorer (http://www.contoismusic.com/yamaha-dxpl-explorer-electronic-drum-kit.html).
I can't find many reviews on the Yamaha DXPL explorer drumset but according to the guys at Guitar Center it is supposed to be better than the DM5 and the closest to sounding like a real drum. What do you guys think? Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Well...I haven't played either one...but I believe DM5 is quite a bit older than the xplorer....and the way technology is....I would imagine that the xplorer probably has better sounds due to newer technology...:D.....I believe you can hear and see a video on the xplorer on dtxperience.com....just curious...do you have a specific amount that you want pay for a kit...for just a few hundred more I believe you can get a dtxpress, which is a much better kit...

I wouldn't buy anything you can't try first. Did you try the DM5 and DXPL? Which one did you like? That is the one I would buy.;)

thanks guys!! I'll test both of them out soon and maybe possibly look into the dtxpress you mentioned. I don't really want to spend more than 800$ because it's my first drum set and I just want to learn, really.
Also I want electronic drums not because of the variety of sounds produced but because I want to be able to play at 3 am or whenever I feel like it without being a bother.
I'm so excited!! I'll keep you guys posted on what I choose and thanks again for your input.
