I am posing the question here: Should we make video tutorials from all the good tutorials that have been posted here and at DTXperience.com. Maybe we should ask people with different modules to do video tutorials to help newbies and others needing help.

Jack wrote a great tutorial among the many he has done. Maybe we could pick out topics that need video tutorials or do videos from past tutorials.

Jack, would you mind any of us putting some of your tutorials to video?

Hi Tom.
I don't mind at all, heck I might do some if I ever get around to getting a firewire cable to connect my Cannon mini DV camera to a computer for downloading the video content.
The major problem with this is where are you going to host the videos, video files are extremely large depending on the time duration of the video, the last tutorial I wrote could take as much as 10 to 15 minutes to explain and show on video thus would be a rather large file, have to keep some of the quality intact since if using too much video compression (WMV) then the screen on a module may be impossible to read or see in the video.
Excellent idea! :)
Too bad the eDrum manufacturers are too freaking lazy or cheap to do this in the first place. :(

I think it's a good idea. The vids will probably have to be condensed to the essential info so they're not taking 10-15 minutes. People could certainly just post them at U-tube and link from here.

Hi Tom.
Bearing in mind your idea. :)
I just did my DTXtreme III Built in Track Recording tutorial in video format.
I uploaded it to 4share, even in WMV mode, it's 44 megs in size.
Please, any of you interested, check it out and give me some input regarding it's contents, size and overall usefulness.
It's lasts 10 minutes.
Please keep in mind, I am far from being a good narrator for videos! LOL :D
Here's the link........
Link Removed due to redoing the Tutorial.

(Side note) I just tried watching the video via the 4Share online video player when you click the link above, seems 4share's video player will only play 7 minute videos since mine stops at 7 minutes, on the same page, click download to see the full video on your computer. This video is a test and I might re-do this video on next days off.

Take care

Jack, I thought the video was great, I think that it needs to convey information and help people which it does. We can always upload it to Vimeo or youtube and make a youtube channel for EDF. That way we can host them and link to them as David suggested. Very cool video! This is why you are the Master. T

My next question is, do we need to make a seperate forum for the video tutorials?

BTW, Jack I am going to run through the tutorial later at my kit. I loved the video and thought it was thorough, I dont think its long at all. I felt like I was learning something which made it flow nicely. Since I never used the built in recording feature I was a perfect first time student. Great Job Jack, I am sure many people will gain from this. T

Nice work Jack. I have absolutely no idea what you were talking about, but then that's probably why Scott has temporary ownership of my DTX III module - hehehe.

Maybe next time we could get a full-on video of you in all your glory? WW

Nice job, Jack. I can't seem to be able to download the full version. The first 7 minuites looks great though. What about turning off the unwanted voices on ch. 11 msb 125 ? That could another video then. Alvis :)

LOL.... funny you should mention that Alvis, it's my project for next days off.
I want to do the "turn off annoying percussion" video. :)

Thanks for the kind words guys, I might redo the tutorial video, hopefully get the narration down better, without all the screw ups! :)
I was using this video as a test bed, to make sure the module display looked good on video, I tried doing a video of the whole module but the display didn't show up well and couldn't make out the text on the display. It was also a test bed to get the hang of the video editing software.

Tom, thanks for trying this out. :)
The EDF YouTube channel would be kinda cool, I know nothing about YouTube, all I ever do is go there to watch videos when bored! LOL :)
Again, thanks for the input guys! :)

Hi Tom and all.
I redid my Video Tutorial.
The whole thing is different and the tutorial itself is a bit better than last time, not as many mistakes by me and I remembered a part I had left out last time.
I hope this time around it's much better but it still lasts a little over 10 minutes, 10:33 to be exact.
Here's the link but best to download it to your machine since 4share will only play 7 minutes of it!
http://www.4shared.com/file/131152127/ef43b14c/DTXTREME-III_Tutorial_1.html
Click the download button, the file is just about 14 megs in WMV format.

Jack - come on, the main reason to see the video is to see what you look like! :p hahaha...just kidding. Anyway, I don't know what the first version was like, so I don't know how much changed. I also don't have a DTX3 so my opinion is completely from an outside view. For the most part I liked that you broke it down into step by step instructions, however, I know that if it were me I'd want to see the actual buttons you're pressing...though I'm sure that means you'd have to zoom out a little, therefore reducing clarity of the LCD screen's view. Tough call I guess...maybe people who have a DTX3 would follow it just fine and not need to see what buttons you're pressing and can simply go by what you're saying. It's just the way I know I'd want to see it. The other thing that I'd ask is maybe when you get to the part where you save to the flash drive explain why you choose "AllSong" instead of any of the other choices there.

And finally...no fair saying that you're sitting far from the kit while making a tutorial! It should be required on tutorials that you must play at least a little! :D :D

Nice job Jack. ;)

Hi Dschrammie.
You're right, it would have been cool to get the whole module in the tutorial, I did try that and unfortunately the LCD display was illegible, so I decided to go with the screen shot and say which buttons are being pressed in the narration part.
I just wish I was a better narrator but as you heard, it's soooo not my thing!!! LOL :)
I will be making another tutorial on my next days off (thur & fri) and on this one, you might get a peek at me and my kit, time will tell. I'm very new to video tutorials so hopefully they will get better as I gather a little experience at it! :)
I agree with the points you made and thank you for your suggestions, we'll see what the next video brings.

Great work on the video Jack! Way to go Alvis "the module master".

Although this is an important video for all DTX III owners worldwide, lets not gloss over the fact that Jack mentioned "WildWes" on a YouTube video. I'm famous now :-)

Thanks guys.
Tom, like I mentioned in the PM, I had fun with this one, had been planning Alvis's pip part since I thought up this tutorial. :)
Plugging EDF in the tutorials seemed like the logical thing to do since I strongly believe in this forum and what it stands for! :)

Alvis, you deserve to be famous, as Wes said "Module Master" I have to agree with that wholeheartedly, besides, I've never been one to use someone else's idea and take credit for that idea (at least not intentionally, besides, my name isn't Yamaha).
I had great fun with the part where your avatar appears in the video, even Debbie chuckled and really liked that part! :)

Wes, of course I had to mention you, I love that itty bitty little cymbal pad, comes in handy and kinda looks cute on the kit! LOL :)

I'm glad you guys enjoyed the video, now, I just got to figure out what the next one will be, since I have no idea at this time! :)

"Besides, My name isn't Yamaha" LMAO! That's my favorite DTX III video by anybody. It has almost everything, Jack ( the great videographer of all things DTX) in person, mention of alvis( who has never seen a button he didn't push just because he could), mention of Wildwes ( known worldwide for his hoard of pcy-10 , pcy 150s cymbals and builder of "The Puretrator" drumkit), and EDF (whose motto could be "To go where no drum has gone before". If it only had a cameo appearance by Debbie it would be perfect. You know like when Alfred Hich**** walks by the camera in one of his movies. Looking forward to the next one whatever it is. Alvis :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the video Alvis, I had great fun planning and making it. :)
Debbie laughed at your comment "If it only had a cameo appearance by Debbie it would be perfect." who knows, maybe next time! :)
I don't know about you, but I just get the feeling Wes is a collector of fine rubber cymbals, at first it was PCY-10, now PCY-150s, what will tomorrow bring to feed Wes's appetite for discontinued Yamaha cymbals? Hmmmmm, I better start collecting PCY-155's, there may be a hot market for those babies one day! LOL :)

"The ToKnipe Show". Shouldn't there be an "m" in there? (The TomKnipe Show).

"besides my name isn't Yamaha" should be your new signature Jack.

"cameo appearances by Debbie" is a great idea Alvis. I think an appearance of the PCY-10 in every video would work too :) hahahaha.

"known for his worlwide hoard of PCY-10 and PCY-150 cymbals". It's not hoarding! It's investing in my future. I recently read where many of the v-world drummers are purchasing Yamaha cymbals now. Seems the secret is out about their outstanding quality, at a reasonable price. I wonder why none of us ever told them about this years ago? I crack me upward this time.

Hi Wes.
HAHAHA I love the catchy title, had a good chuckle at Tom's intro (teaser) video.
"besides my name isn't Yamaha" will not be my signature since I'm writing today for free help! :p LOL
Hmmmm, PCY-10 in every future video, hey, that can be arranged! LOL :)
The Cameo appearance by Debbie might be a tough challenge though, who knows, time will tell.
Hmmmm, well, we've been telling them for ages that Yamaha cymbals rock, they just didn't listen. I have to agree with you on stocking up on those PCY-150s cymbals though. The one thing I like better on the 150s over the 155 is the bow area is just a little wider, the edge on the 155 is too wide for a ride cymbal, being cokeyed, I often hit the bell of the 155 accidentally due to the bow area being too narrow.

I just want to add that Phil also gave me a sweet idea for a commercial spoof for the new show.

I hope no one is expecting any serious E Drum stuff from out the new venture, it would be very foolish to assume that Sal or I could pull off anything serious. This will be total spoof and fat humor, their may be some interesting tid bits but it will all be for laughs and always for humor.

We will probably upload it on my personal account so we can leave EDF unscathed by my oh so witty antics. Oh btw we have a Major Sponsor that is guarenteed to be a cure for G A S.

Thanks Jack. Now, if I can only find a way to make money with that "talent" I would be set.:D Infinitestudiotracks.com is pretty much dead. It has been since ebay changed its polices on downloadable files. I went from making $700 a month with that site down to zero in a matter of 3 days. Thanks eBay! I only got 2-1/2 months out of it before ebay killed it and it took about 6 month just to get the website up and running. Never mind the time it took to record all those loops. (Sorry, sore spot as you can see)

I guess I never really looked at it as a talent. If I could do that stuff in one take, now that would be a talent.

Back to the topic at hand:

I was thinking (bad, I know) since some people would like to see the whole drum module when you do your videos, maybe you could set-up a fixed video cam on the whole module. Record the how you go threw the steps and then go back and add stills of the screen over top of the video. Or maybe you could set-up a split screen. You would need two cams, one on the module and another on the close up of the screen.

Of course doing all of that puts a whole new level of complexity on things. That's part of the reason I stopped doing the video pod-casts.;)

Hi Phil.
The DTXtreme III is fairly well laid out button wise, I do mention the names of the buttons I am pressing as I go along in the tutorials so it should be fairly easy to follow along.
After you describing all the work involved in doing the idea you have, I'll pass! LOL :)
The video tutorials are kind of a bonus I did by request, I normally do them in text as detailed as I know how. :)

In regards to the eBay thing, that kinda sucks. Maybe you can find an alternate way of doing this?
